ANYTHING BUT EASY. My mom toiled as a teacher, while my dad worked pay-by-day jobs. Witnessing their relentless work ethic fueled my desire for a different path—one that was smarter and more promising.
Although our roots were in the South, Texas to be precise, the culinary habits in our African/African American household weren't the healthiest. Weight issues and diabetes were common struggles among my family members.
The notion of finishing everything on my plate, instilled from a young age, contributed to an unhealthy relationship with food.
Upon graduating college, I made a LIFE-CHANGING move to Austin. Little did I know, it would become the backdrop for a transformative journey.
When the pandemic struck, gyms closed their doors, forcing me to adapt. A friend with a home gym inspired me to embark on a fitness journey, and surprisingly, I fell in love with it. Exercise became my sanctuary, a healing balm for stress and negative thoughts.
